Foundation Pier Installation in Oklahoma City

Piering transfers your home's weight past the active clay layer to more stable soil or bedrock. It is the most common structural fix for a settling foundation.

| Pier type | Published OKC estimate |
|---|---|
| Steel push pier | $1,100–$2,000 per pier[2]; $1,500–$3,000[3] |
| Helical pier | $1,200–$2,100 per pier[2]; $2,000–$4,000[3] |
| Pressed concrete piling | $350–$650 per pile[2] |
How Many Piers?
The pier count depends on how much of the foundation has settled and is set by the inspection. One source says most OKC homes needing full repair use 8–15 piers.[3]
Signs to Watch For
- Stair-step cracks in brick or block
- Diagonal drywall cracks above doors and windows
- Doors or windows that stick or won't latch
- Sloping, uneven or bouncy floors
- Gaps between walls and ceiling or around window frames
- Water pooling near the foundation after rain
Local Soil Factors
Much of the Oklahoma City metro sits on clay soils that swell when wet and shrink when dry. Long, hot summers followed by heavy spring rain can lift and drop parts of a foundation unevenly.[2] USDA soil survey data puts shrink-swell clay that limits slab homes on about 20.8% of Oklahoma County's mapped land. The same county was 100% in drought on the September 29, 2026 U.S. Drought Monitor map.[5] That said, the dominant NRCS shrink-swell class for Oklahoma County as a whole is rated "Low", with about 26% of land rated High or Very High.[6] So problems vary lot by lot, which is why an on-site inspection matters.
